J Though it had been a couple of weeks since school had started and Jack A had been shipped off here, he still hadn't "settled in" - you could say he C was homesick. He missed the familiar environments of Ohio, like the lick K of forest behind his house, the small u-shaped lanes of the suburban S neighborhoods a quarter-mile around, and he missed his girls. He knew O that this year they were all expecting him to join the Junior Varsity N cheer squad at the local public high school, but they wouldn't see him at all. Jack had left quickly over the last few weeks of summer for Robbins, R telling very few people where he had gone, which hadn't included his Y cheer friends. School had probably just started this week back home, A and they all had probably sent him countless IMs and texts about his N missing in action status. Come to think of it, he hadn't been on AIM or checked his phone this week, but with good reason - he had a lot to adjust ! to, especially with coursework.
if you got it all figured out
It was all so intense here. The school was so focused on the one major everyone had - which surprised him, because weren't arts students supposed to be given the tools to be creative and free? - that there weren't any extracurricular sports, aside from the Phys. Ed program of the school. Or at least, he hadn't gotten wind of them. The institution itself was intimidating as well. There were so many great works of art everywhere, and it made him feel like the creators of those must have been great even before they came to Robbins. He was just an amateur. And when you stepped outside campus, everything was so natural beauty-less - Jack had grown up in a developing Ohio suburb, so there were still stretches of green land, and all the construction reflected the natural curve of their surroundings, unlike around here, where it was all clear-cut and linear. He really didn't know where he was going to get any good shots.
then what is there to shout about
However, Jack held out hope. He knew he was here for a reason - he could make this a career. It was what he loved to do, anyway. His parents were right, this was the best way to learn how to refine his talent. After all, he had had prospective buyers on some of his prints before, and imagine what business would be like after he graduated? For a brief moment, a thought crossed his path about setting up a partnership with an interior designer - theming his pictures to the mood and colours of the room.
this midwest town is gonna miss you
For now, though, he just wanted to appreciate photography as an expression of beauty, not a profession. So he sat on the grass - the most homey place he could find - in jeans and a t-shirt, although it was probably too hot for that - cleaning his camera and looking for a subject. It was a weekend - most kids were out at the beach or down on the street chatting it up. So it wasn't like he could ask someone to sit next to him and casually pose.

The next best thing, though, to having someone to model was having yourself. Jack decided it was time to update his self-portrait portfolio. He had brought his tripod out with him, and so he set it up at a low enough height that he could pose sitting on the grass - maybe get a few spots of blue sky framing his crown - and stretched as far as he could without standing up out of his pose to hit the self-timer. Jack reminded himself again that he needed to be saving for a camera remote. Not being able to see the shots he took as he took them, he guesstimated whenever he got a good frame. Unfortunately, none of them was particularly spectacular. Jack had pretty high standards, and so he knew he was going to be here for a while - until he got THE shot.

CAELYNN?!
caelynn sat in her dorm, staring at the clock and silently wishing for something exciting to happen. finally coming to the conclusion that she would go crazy if she sat a moment longer, she sprang to her feet, fixed her hair, and grabbed her camera. she smoothed out her dress and slung the neck strap of her camera around her neck as she pulled the door shut. caelynn had nothing in particular in mind, but she was certain she could get some good shots outside.
she ran her hand through her hair once and twirled it lazily around her finger. when she reached the door leading to the outside she pushed it open eagerly and took a deep breath of the clean virginia air. it was nothing compared to the air back home, but at least it was cooler here. as she walked around she came upon another person that had decided to bring their camera along. there was a boy, probably about her age, sitting and posing in front of his tripod.
she came up behind him, several yards away, and kneeled to the ground, setting up her shot. she made sure he was right to one side of the shot and the tripod was seen in the other side. caelynn pressed her finger to the button and snapped a quick picture before looking down at the camera. " perfect..." she muttered quietly to herself. she stood back up and walked swiftly toward the boy, her light airy steps and the flowing of her dress making her appear as though she was floating through the air.
she smiled at him sweetly and sat crossed legged on the ground in front of him before speaking in her feminine australian accent. " g'day. mind if i join you? " her question was rather rhetorical, seeing as she was already there, but it was polite to ask. her hair was blown slightly by the wind so she pushed it to the side before allowing her hands to rest on her camera, tapping her fingers on it quietly. she sighed as she looked around, missing the natural beauty of the australian outback.
